About this activity

Join us for hands-on woodworking classes designed to equip students with practical skills, confidence using tools, and pride in creating something with their own hands. Each student will complete three unique projects per session and will be provided their own set of tools to use in class. Our woodworking program follows a progressive pathway: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each level introduces new skills, tools, and project challenges while building upon previously learned techniques.

**BEGINNER WOODWORKING**

The Beginner Woodworking Series is designed for students with little to no woodworking experience. Safety serves as the foundation for every project as students learn to confidently use basic woodworking tools and develop essential shop skills. Projects are intentionally designed around the tool or skill being introduced, allowing students to gain hands-on experience while creating projects they can proudly take home.

**Students will learn**

  • Workshop safety and tool handling
  • Proper use of a tape measure and speed square
  • Safe use of a handsaw
  • Sanding techniques using sanding blocks and belt sanders
  • Hammer and nail skills
  • Drilling and fastening techniques
  • Wood staining and finishing
  • Following basic project plans

No prior woodworking experience is required. The Homeschool Hangar is a Step Up Direct Pay Provider. Families can reserve their scholarship funds for all classes through their EMA account.

Matt Locke
Woodworking Teacher

Matt has been building things since he was old enough to swing a hammer, and he’s excited to share those skills with the homeschool community. A licensed EMT who works in the pediatric emergency department, and a dad of four, Matt brings a steady hand, a watchful eye, and a whole lot of fun to every project.
