Leathercraft 2 - Intermediate Leather - October Session

6-Week Intermediate Leatherworking Course for Ages 8+ (Prerequisite: Introduction to Leathercraft) Students will build on their foundational leatherworking skills as they move into more advanced techniques and larger, more detailed projects. This hands-on course deepens craftsmanship through tooling, stitching, dye techniques, and construction while encouraging creativity, patience, and pride in completed work. Each participant will leave with multiple finished pieces and the confidence to continue developing their leatherworking skills. Course Goals

• Build on foundational leatherworking techniques including cutting, beveling, burnishing, dyeing, and finishing
• Learn tooling, carving, and advanced decorative methods
• Develop stitching and construction skills for functional leather pieces
• Strengthen patience, attention to detail, and craftsmanship through guided projects
• Complete multiple intermediate-level leather projects to take home

Weekly Journey Week 1: Skill Refresh & Tool Introduction - Review foundational skills, safety reminders, and introduction to advanced tools. Create a personalized name tag project. Week 2: Tooling & Carving Basics - Introduction to leather tooling, hand vs. stamp methods, and beginning carved designs. Start ornament or magnet project. Week 3: Texture, Detail & Depth - Continue tooling techniques and complete carved ornament or magnet project. Week 4: Advanced Dye Techniques - Learn antiquing, block dyeing, brush dyeing, and resisting methods. Begin belt project with beveling, burnishing, and dye work. Week 5: Stitching & Construction - Introduction to saddle stitch and baseball stitch. Practice hole punching and begin stitching belt borders. Week 6: Finishing & Hardware Installation - Punch holes for hardware, sealing and finishing techniques, and final belt assembly with buckles and rivets.
