Carroll 250: Preserving and Sharing Home Movies

Home movies and amateur motion pictures are important records of our cultural heritage, both for the families who were documented, their local communities, our nation, and our world. Join us for this talk that discusses the cultural importance of home movies, resources to care for your home movies, and a screening of some select home movies from the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. Siobhan Cernugelj Hagan is the Founder, President, and CEO of MARMIA, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Moving Image Archive, a nonprofit based in Baltimore. Their mission is to preserve and provide access to moving images that document the arts, history, and culture of the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region—including many home movies and amateur movies. Siobhan holds an M.A. in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has worked in a variety of organizations throughout her 15-year career, including the UCLA Library, the DC Public Library, and the Smithsonian Institution. This program is in partnership with the Carroll County Genealogical Society. This program is part of the Carroll 250 Speaker Series celebrating the United States Semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of the 1776 United States Declaration of Independence.
